Joel Sandhu

Joel Sandhu is a Research Associate with the Global Public Policy Institute, Berlin. His research interests focus on the EU-China and EU-India relations, China's nuclear non-proliferation policy, India's foreign and security policy, global governance in the field of nuclear non-proliferation and the WTO. In addition to his work on GPPi’s research on the EU-China and EU-India relations and global governance, Joel is the coordinator of the 'Global Governance 2020' program and is part of the 'Joint Stakeholders in Global Energy Governance' program and the 'Rising Powers and Global Governance' team.
Before joining GPPi in January 2008, Joel worked in London with Policy Network as a policy officer on their Globalisation and Social Justice research team where he researched the EU’s role in economic globalisation. He also wrote various on-line publications on trade issues between the EU and China; Social Inequalities and Dysfunctional Societies; and Global Economic Governance for Policy Network. His commentary has featured on the EU Observer entitled, "EU-India relations: from blind spot to strategic engagement", and "Resetting Europe's India strategy", The Statesman entitled, "India and Pakistan must re-engage", and the Lisbon India Monitor, amongst others.
Previously, Joel worked with Sister Cities International US, a non-profit citizen diplomacy network, where he acted as the official translator to the Mexican delegation. He also served as a research specialist on US-Soviet Union Cold War relations in the office of the former Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Jim Wright.
Joel holds a BA in Political Science and International Relations from Texas Christian University, US, where he was on the Dean's list for academic excellence and a MA in International Relations and International Law from the University of Sussex, UK.
